Last free section in Bartkira
Take a look at this, and tell me if you think you can guess why every single person who’s received them has turned these pages down:
You can do this section and be a part of this amazing project, but ONLY if you’re a.) super amazing and b.) up to the challenge.
I’m going to be releasing this thing onto the internet volume by volume- volume one is nearly ready! This section is in volume 3, so if you do choose to take it on you’ll have ample time to make it awesome.
Interested? Email bartkiracommittee at gmail com with examples of your work.
UPDATE: minutes after I posted this, Warwick Johnson-Cadwell (the current Tank Girl artist) leapt in and snagged ‘em. Whoa! So right now the pages are taken, but still- I’m always looking for more artists, so keep sending in your portfolios etc
Bartkira Interview at VICE
VICE magazine interviewed me a month or so back and it just went up. Normally I read interviews with me through my fingers, but this one came out quite good. Click here to read it.
WHAT DOES OTOMO THINK OF BARTKIRA?
A number of people are wondering whether or not I’ve tried to contact Katsuhiro Otomo. Of course, I have!
A Japanese man who sells prints of Shohei Otomo’s work showed Bartkira to the Otomos. Apparently Katsuhiro laughed, but said he didn’t really get it. His son Shohei thought it was very cool. So that’s all I know. I asked a couple more questions, but haven’t received a response.
That’s generally been the response to this project… those who get it love it, those who don’t laugh and move on. The approval of the Otomos is of course important to me- if Katsuhiro had flipped over the tea table, I would have seriously reconsidered the project. If I find out more, I’ll let you know!
I hope at the very least this project encourages people to get around to buying Otomo’s timeless books, if they haven’t already. Amazon link to vol. 1 here.
